GILBERT KARAM
DIRECTOR
Since 1991,
Gilbert Karam was born in Kartaba, a beautiful village in the high mountains of Byblos, Lebanon. He was raised by a firefighter and a nurse which developed his humanitarian sense and influenced his films.
He was known during his childhood by directing theater plays in his hometown. Hence, his first short film cast was formed by women from his neighborhood winning the "Best Female Ensemble Cast" and "Grand Cinemas Special Prize" and participated in many festivals in and outside Lebanon.
As a fresh young Lebanese graduate seeking a source of living, Gilbert founded a small photography studio, "Le Studio", where his work attracted many and became a well known brand in the wedding industry in the Middle East.
Having reached through his studio a financial stability, struggle of every artist in Beirut, he followed again his dreams and obtained his Master's degree in Directing coronated by his second short film inspired by his struggling " ALNAJMA" in 2020.
"ALNAJMA" was nominated to more than 15 local and international film festivals and won many awards, among which:
"Best Actress Award" in Les Regards de L'ICART Paris
"Special Jury Mention" in Tyre International Film Festival
"Honorary Award for Best Actress" in Beirut Shorts
Gilbert's recent projects received praise and interaction from the social media audience in Lebanon, and his name became a reference for a large spreading artistic content.
He is recently focusing on his Film Career, writing his first feature and working on many projects in Lebanon and abroad.
He participated recently in The Intuitive Film Lab conducted by
Muriel Aboulrouss and created his latest short as a part of the
Award-Winning series "Ana Beirut".
His latest success was creating a small creature called, Maria!
